BERNARD MOORE received his initial computer training in the US Navy Reserves as a Cryptological Technician where he received a Meritorious Service Medal for outstanding achievement. While in the Reserves, he learned networking basics as well as satellite communications. He also worked as a systems administrator at both the University of Alabama's Office of Student Financial Services and the University of Maryland at College Park's Office of Student Financial Aid. He has worked in multiple networking environments including UNIX, Solaris and Novell.

After receiving Masters' degrees from both the Universities of Alabama and Maryland, and while working on his Ph.D., Bernard started working as an information technology (IT) consultant for various non-profit agencies in the Washington D.C. area. After working for an environmental non-profit agency as a researcher, Bernard realized the need for small and medium-sized non-profit agencies to have access to affordable IT services. He answered this need by forming Rosetta Networking Systems with Mario Klariæ in 1999.
